Red Light Cameras Get Green Light In Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) ―
The City of Hollywood has given a green light to install cameras aimed at catching red light runners. Wednesday afternoon, city commissioners approved a plan to install a network of cameras at dangerous intersections around the city.
Those who are caught running a red light will be ticketed $125.00
"We're hoping that having these cameras in place with the proper signage will allow pedestrians and motorists to realize there is enforcement in that area and reduce the number of intersection crashes," said Hollywood police Lt. Manny Marino.
Cameras will likely be placed along Hollywood Boulevard at Interstate 95 and State Road 441; and along Sheridan Street on Interstate 95 and State Road 441.
The cameras probably won't be installed until next year because commissioners need to take a final vote on the change and select a company to install the cameras.
About half a dozen South Florida cities, including Pembroke Pines, have already installed red light cameras. Police have caught and ticketed hundreds of drivers.
Fort Lauderdale and Miami may be next to install these cameras.
