South Florida Relief Supplies Land In Haiti

PORT AU PRINCE (CBS4) ― Drives across South Florida last week to help the people of Haiti devastated by four major storms this season are beginning to pay off.

More than 50 thousand pounds of relief supplies landed in Port Au Prince on Saturday. CBS4's Sharrie Williams, who is traveling with a group of volunteers who will distribute the food, said it will make a difference.

Thousands in Haiti remain without a place to stay, food or water. At least 425 people have died as a result of severe flooding after a series of brutal hurricanes and a tropical storm. Aid agencies say mass hunger is a risk because the storms wiped out Haiti's crops and damaged irrigation systems and pumping stations.
