Memorial Service Today For Slain Vietnam War Vet

Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.

POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) ― A memorial gathering and service is scheduled for Thursday night for a South Florida Vietnam War veteran who was robbed and murdered outside of his business last weekend.

The memorial gathering for Richard Entriken, 60, will take place from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Fred Hunter Funeral Home in Davie. The memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday, Entriken's friends and family members handed out flyers in front of his business, the First Step Sober House in Pompano Beach, advertising an increased reward of $26-thousand for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his death.

Broward Sheriff's investigators say Entriken had just collected rent from the tenants and was preparing to leave the residential drug and alcohol residential treatment center last Saturday when he was approached by three men who robbed him.

After handing over the money, investigators say the suspects shot and killed Entriken in cold blood.

Twelve years ago, Entriken founded "The First Step Sober House", a halfway house for convicts recovering from drugs and alcohol. It's mission that was close to his heart because he just recently celebrated 16 years of sobriety.

"We want the community to know that one of their stars has been dimmed and we're sorry about that for the community and we are sorry about that for our family. We just want people to know how important this is and how important it is to find the man who did this to put him away," said the victim's brother Buck and two daughters, Courtney and Lindsay.

Courtney, 23, and Lindsay, 19, along with their uncle Buck, say they simply want closure following Entriken's murder.

"All the time, all the time, the environment he worked in was just dangerous itself. We worried all the time especially my mother, said Courtney and her sister, Lindsay.

Entriken's two business partners, who were leaving the First Step Sober House at the time of the robbery, told BSO investigators after the shooting the 3 suspects, in their late 20s or early 30s, fled in a dark blue or black compact, newer model, 4-door, foreign-made vehicle with dark tinted windows.

Anyone with information on robbery or shooting is asked to call Broward Crimestoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
