An investigation has been launched into a former spokesman for the University of Miami's football team after child pornography was reportedly found on his office computer.
So far no charges have been filed against 52-year old Rick Korch who served as the team's spokesman for nearly 4 years.
Korch, who lives in Miramar with his wife and four children, left his position in the university's sports information office about two weeks ago.
According to the Coral Gables Police Department, school officials contacted them after a UM computer technician found the pornography of Korch's computer when he brought it in for repairs. Alberto Perez reportedly told investigators after he reformatted the hard drive on February 12th, he found an explicit video file involving what appeared to be a ''prepubescent girl.''
He also found other images of ''scantily clad'' girls that appeared between the ages of 10 and 15 years. Another technician reportedly found sexually explicit photos of children stored in a folder called ''Season Recaps.''
On February 25th, Coral Gables detectives searched Korch's office and removed hundreds of CDs and DVDs, floppy disks, more than two dozen video tapes and other computers.
Korch's attorney William Barzee issued the following statement:
"Rick Korch was terminated at the University of Miami due to inappropriate pornography on his work computer. However, he is innocent of any criminal wrongdoing and looks forward to having the opportunity to clear his name in the appropriate forum at the appropriate time. This is a private matter and we wish it to remain so." The University refused to comment on the story and told anyone who worked with Korch to not speak to the press.
Before his stint with UM, he was the media director for the Jacksonville Jaguars for nine years. He also worked as the editor in chief of Pro Football Weekly.
