Parade Of Circus Animals Through Downtown Miami

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Some have called the morning commute in Downtown Miami 'a real circus' at times, but early Tuesday morning it was literally a circus as a half a dozen elephants and 12 horses strutted down Biscayne Boulevard.

The pachyderm and equine parade heralded the start of Ringling Bros. And Barnum & Bailey Circus' 12 day run at the American Airlines Arena. This year's performances of the Over The Top show will run from January 8th through January 19th. While the show is in town, the circus' wild animals will stay in a temporary waterfront home behind the arena.

As for their dietary needs, it can be quite extensive. Each week the elephants will eat 5 tons of carrots, apples and lettuce along with 425 loaves of bread as between meal snacks. As for the show's lions and tigers, they require more than a ton of fresh meat every week.
