Brown Having Surgery On Injured Foot On Friday
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown remained in Charlotte after Thursday night's Panthers game to undergo surgery on his broken foot. Brown suffered a Lisfranc fracture to his right foot during a game against the Buccaneers and will have Dr. Bob Anderson perform surgery on the injured foot.
A Lisfranc injury is a fracture at the joint between the cuneiforms and the metatarsals, according to WebMD. The recovery time for Lisfranc injuries varies from player to player, but Dolphins guard Donald Thomas suffered the same type of injury and was back to training four months later, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Brown was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday. For the season he had rushed for 677 yards and scored six touchdowns. Brown was also the key feature in the Wildcat offense and without him the Wildcat was used sparingly against the Panthers. Brown was angling for a new contract and based upon his play up until the injury probably would have gotten one.
He's likely to play out the final year of his deal, especially if no collective bargaining agreement is reached and 2010 becomes an uncapped year. Based upon the rules of the uncapped year, players like Brown who will be in the fifth-year of their contract would not be eligible for unrestricted free agency.
Ricky Williams took over for Ronnie Brown as the starting back against the Panthers and the offense didn't miss a beat. Williams torched the Panthers for 119 yards on 22 carries and scored 2 touchdowns on the ground and also caught a touchdown. It was the first time in Williams' career he head touchdowns on the ground and through the air.
