Rudy Crew And School Board Set To Face Off
Two Board Members Have Taken Action To Challenge Whether Crew Has Lived Up To The Terms Of His Contract
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Rudy Crew could be fighting for his job this week.
Our news partners at the Miami Herald are reporting at least two board members have taken separate actions that may challenge whether Crew has lived up to the terms of his contract.
If the board can prove he has not, they could fire Crew without having to pay out the balance of his contract.
Losing Crew without paying his balance would save the district more than $700,000. Rudy Crew makes $315,000 a year. His contract runs through 2010, but the board is able to fire him at any time.
The next board meeting is a week from Monday, on August 4th.
Rudy Crew has had an especially troubling past sixth months. He's struggled to balance this year's school budget, being forced to juggle rising food and fuel prices with contracted raises for teachers and other salaried employees.
However, FCAT scores and school grades from the state have risen steadily since Rudy Crew was named superintendent.
