CLEARWATER (CBS4) ― Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will continue her two day swing through Florida with rallies in Jacksonville and Pensacola on Tuesday.

During a rally in Clearwater on Monday morning, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin toned down her criticism of Obama's ties to 1960s-era radical Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground. The violent group was blamed for several bombings during the Vietnam War era; at the time Obama was only a boy.

In her earlier attacks, Palin had said that Obama "pals around with terrorists." But then it came to light that although the two men had served on a charity board together and Ayers had hosted a meet-the-candidate event when Obama first ran for state office in the mid-1990s, they really didn't know each other that well.

Later in the day, Palin made an appearance in Fort Myers where she describe her running mate John McCain as the only candidate who is talking about victory when it comes to the wars in Iraq and on terror.

Palin received her loudest round of applause when she told a heckler her son was in Iraq fighting for his freedom to heckle her. "Bless your heart sir," Palin told the heckler, "My son is fighting in Iraq for your right to protest."

She went on to talk about cutting taxes and opening areas for drilling including off the coast of Florida. "We do need to drill, drill baby, drill," yelled to the crowd.

In between her public speaking engagements, Palin will attend a number of private fundraisers in Boca Raton, Naples and Jacksonville. Palin reportedly raised more than a million dollars during her stop at the Boca Resort and Golf Club.

Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden is scheduled to attend a rally in Tampa on Wednesday. The Obama campaign is hitting back against the attacks on his character, calling the McCain campaign's tactics "desperation."

"Senator McCain and his operatives are gambling they can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance," Obama said at a campaign stop on Monday, "That's what you do when you're out of touch, out of ideas and running out of time."

The campaign also released a documentary about McCain's involvement with Charles Keating, the disgraced Savings and Loan owner convicted of securities fraud. McCain was investigated for his dealings with Keating.

Florida is a critical battleground state with 27 electoral votes up for grabs.
