Trial Postponed In Sean Taylor Murder Case

Trial Reset For August 25th

MIAMI (CBS4) ― A Miami judge has postponed the trial of four men accused in the slaying of Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor until August and also issued a warning to a Miami-Dade detective.

Defense attorneys and prosecutors said Friday they weren't prepared for trial to begin April 7 as initially planned. Circuit Judge Dennis Murphy rescheduled the case for Aug. 25. He also warned prosecutors that he would jail Miami-Dade Homicide Detective Juan Segovia if he didn't finish his report on Sean Taylor's death.

Taylor, an All-Pro safety, was shot during a botched robbery attempt at his Palmetto Bay home in November and died the next day in the hospital. His girlfriend and baby daughter were in the house at the time of the shooting but were not hurt.

Police say the four suspects drove from the Fort Myers area to commit the robbery.

Two suspects, alleged 17-year-old triggerman Eric Rivera Jr. and 20-year-old Charles Wardlow, are getting new lawyers after their initial attorneys withdrew from the case. The other two suspects are Venjah Hunte and Jason Mitchell, both 20.
