Bail Denied For 1 Suspect In Sean Taylor Murder

Trial Set For August 25th

MIAMI (CBS4) ― One of the suspects in last year's killing of Washington Redskins star Sean Taylor will not be allowed to leave to jail before the trial starts.

Miami Circuit Judge Dennis Murphy denied a bail request Friday made by 20-year-old Jason Scott Mitchell.

Mitchell and three others from Lee County are charged with first-degree murder in the November shooting death of Taylor during a botched burglary at his Palmetto Bay home. Taylor died the next day in the hospital. His girlfriend and baby daughter were in the house at the time of the shooting but they were not hurt.

Murphy ruled that Mitchell was likely to flee prosecution and might commit more crimes if released. The ruling came after Mitchell's mother appealed to the judge to let him out pending trial.

Trial in the case is set for Aug. 25. Prosecutors have not yet said whether they will seek the death penalty.

Prosecutors say the four suspects drove from the Fort Myers area to rob Taylor's home but one of them, alleged 17-year-old triggerman Eric Rivera Jr. ended up shooting him.
