Abraham Shakespeare, winner of a $31 million jackpot, has not been seen since April
Polk County Sheriff
A Central Florida man who hit the jackpot in the Florida Lottery hasn't been seen for more than 6 months, and investigators are asking for help in finding him. His $31 million jackpot took him to court after an angry co-worker claimed he stole the winning ticket, a claim the co-worker lost.
43 year old Abraham Shakespeare of Lakeland won the ticket 3 years ago this month, but his family and friends said they hadn't seen him since April. Despite that, no mission persons report was filed until this month. The Polk County sheriff's office was asked to start searching for Shakespeare on November 9th.
"There is a possibility that he has elected not to be found," said Donna Wood, spokeswoman for the Polk County Sheriff's Office. "We need to be able to hear from anyone who knows where he is currently or has seen him since April."
While the lottery jackpot made Shakespeare a wealthy man, it also brought him a rich man's problems. A co-worker sued him in April, 2007, claiming Shakespeare was a winner only because he had stolen the w.i. inning ticket. The co-worker failed to win, and Shakespeare was allowed to keep his earnings.
Anyone with information about Shakespeare should contact Detective David Clark of the Polk County Sheriff's Office at 863-534-6379 or 863-534-6200.
