Man Released From Probation For Shooting Teen

WEST PALM BEACH (CBS4) ― A judge in Palm Beach County ended a 10-year probation sentence early for a man who had pled guilty to shooting and killing an unarmed teen prankster. The judge said 46-year-old Jay Levin's probation will end five years early.

Levin had pled guilty to manslaughter with a firearm in October of 2004 for the 2003 shooting death of 16-year-old Mark Drewes in the back with a .40 caliber handgun. One year earlier, Drewes and a friend had been playing ring and run at Levin's home when the deadly shooting occurred.

The 10-year probation sentence was part of a plea deal that kept Levin out of prison. Levin told investigators he thought Drewes was an intruder and had a gun. The Drewes family asked the judge to keep Levin on probation saying he was "unremorseful and insincere.
