Nineteen-year old Patrick Lively was in a Miami bond court on Thursday, where he faced charges ffrom attempted armed robbery with a firearm and attempted first-degree murder.
The teacher he's accused of shooting near Carol City High School in Miami Gardens on Tuesday remains hospitalized in good condition.
Sergio Miranda, an algebra teacher, was shot in the upper torso on Tuesday morning.
Miranda, and another teacher Maria Vives, were off campus smoking a cigarette during their lunch break on Tuesday when they were approached by two armed men who demanded money.
When the teachers refused, a shot was fired. Miranda was hit and taken to Ryder Trauma Center.
Vives, who was not hurt, ran off to get help.
After the shooting, the two suspects took off on foot. Tips to police and Crime Stoppers led Miami Dade SWAT members to an apartment complex near the school, where originally they took at least three people into custody but two were released before Lively was charged.
Immediately after the shooting, Miami Carol City High School, Carol City Middle School, and Brentwood Elementary and Barbara Hawkins Elementary were all locked down immediately after the shooting.
Lockdown means the students were confined to their classrooms for their own safety, while police searched for the suspects.
School officials say no students were injured in the incident, and parents were urged not to come to the school to pick up their children because they would not be released until the lockdown was lifted.
