Man Attempting To Rescue Snake Gets Bitten

WESTON (CBS4) ― A couple driving east on I-75 stopped when they saw what they thought was an injured snake on the road.

When the 48-year-old man picked up the snake to remove it, it was he who soon needed treatment. The Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake bit him on his right hand.

"There was a snake on the road and John went to pull it off the road and it turned around and bit him," said the man's wife Lisa Jimmie. She said her husband sucked on the wound and spit out the venom into a cup.

The couple immediately drove to the nearest gas station at mile marker 49 where Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue paramedics met them and began life support treatment to stabilize the man.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Venom Unit responded to the Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Weston and helped treat the man. He is expected to survive.
