A South Florida restaurant is hoping you will help the victims of the deadly Italian earthquake. A large fundraiser is planned for the weekend in Ft. Lauderdale.
Abru Caffé, just a stone's throw away from Fort Lauderdale Beach, is a meeting place for local residents of Italian descent. The quake and aftermath hits close to home to many of their patrons and workers. Hearts are heavy and now, they want to do everything they can to help.
"It's devastating," Lisa Meyer said. "You just feel helpless. We've had tragedies here. We know that feeling; it's an empty feeling."
News feeds roll live from Italy, chronicling the devastation in L'Aquila, Italy. Max Sebastiani was born in that region. "These people are very affectionate and it's just very sad because a lot of these places that've been hit, I've visited personally and I've been there."
Now, Sebastiani is joining an effort being hastily organized by Club Tutti, a group of people who are either from or love Italy. Meyer, a member of Club Tutti, explained, "We're going to be collecting money here and through the next two months here at Abru Café and then we're personally going to go over to L'Aquila and meet with the mayor and have a lottery for x amount of families."
The café will hold the first fundraiser Saturday April 11th.
