After two years and a $22.4 million renovation, South Pointe Park in Miami Beach promises to be one of the country's world-renowned public parks.
The 17.5 acre park will officially re-open to the public on Sunday, March 22nd with free festivities from 3 p.m. until sunset.
The public is invited to walk along the new pavers, serpentine walkways and admire the water features.
CBS4's News Anchor Jim Berry was invited on a media tour Monday for a sneak preview of the park and its new facilities.
"Miami Beach has been doing this for the past seven to ten years -- just bringing all the parks back -- all the facilities back," said Julio Magrisso, of Miami Beach Parks. "This is just one of the areas where we've been doing it. We've only got a few more parks to do and this is our major-milestone park."
In addition, hundreds of trees have been planted and new playground facilities will also be unveiled. It includes a boardwalk made of seashells, grass that feeds off of saltwater and towering lights that kept the turtles in mind.
"They shine in such a way that they will not attract any baby turtle hatchlings to this direction," said Shari Holbert-Lipner. "And they'll make their way out to sea without being distracted."
The park is at 1 Washington Ave. in Miami Beach.
