Spirit Airlines Back On Schedule
lc
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ―
Company spokeswoman Alison Russell says no flights are expected to be canceled out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Monday.
Russell told
CBS4 several factors contributed to the weekend cancellations.
A weather system in the northeast Friday not only forced a number of delays, but certain flights had to be redirected to other airports served by the carrier. Extra pilots were called in Friday and Saturday to help ferry the planes back to their original destinations. By doing so, a number of pilots used up the allotted time they are allowed to spend in a cockpit in a 24 hour period. To add to the pilot shortage, 4 pilots called in sick Saturday, another 7 on Sunday.
Russell estimates the cancellations affected roughly 10-percent of the 185 flights the carrier operates daily.
At Fort-Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport, travelers complained of the heat and said no one offered them water while they waited outside for over two hours.
"It's horrible, horrible, and it will be the last time I will fly in Spirit Airlines," said one angry traveler. "I've been in line for over two hours."
Spirit Airlines encourages all passengers who have flights booked in the next day or so to check at least 4 hours prior to flight to ensure that it will depart as scheduled.
