Slain Pregnant Teen Suspect To Be Tried As Adult

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― A South Florida teenager accused of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend will be tried as an adult, according to prosecutors Tuesday.

Edward Jermaine Babbs, 17, has been charged with first-degree murder and manslaughter of an unborn child in connection with the Oct. 2 death of Stephanie Rabsatt and her unborn child. Babbs has also been moved from the Juvenile Detention Center to the Broward County Main Jail.

Rabsatt, 17, was found dead inside a car in the Winn-Dixie supermarket parking lot at 6301 County Line Road. . She died of gunshot wounds.

Police said during questioning, Babbs admitted to being the father of the unborn child. Rabsatt's family says she was due to deliver a baby boy in November.

Babbs was a senior at Nova High School in Davie and lived with his stepfather, who is a Broward Sheriff's Officer Deputy.
