17 Men Arrested In Online Sex Predator Sting
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ―
Three sting operations for sexual predators prowling for victims online caught 17 men in the traps. Each of the men allegedly either requested to meet with or traveled to visit "juveniles" they met online.
Undercover detectives from the Broward Sheriff's Office and the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, with the assistance of the US Marshal Service, set up the three one-week long operations dubbed "2 YNG 2," or "Too Young 2."
The stings were held over seven months; detectives posed as juveniles on social networking sites. The suspects contacted the detectives through chats that quickly turned explicit in nature. The communication ramped up to exchanging emails and texts, and phone conversations with undercover detectives, who the suspects believed to be young boys or girls.
The suspects showed up at a prearranged location where they were then arrested by BSO and the US Marshals. 15 suspects traveled to Broward County from as far as West Palm Beach to perform sexual acts with people posing as juveniles. Two suspects were arrested based on warrants: Daniel Bjorkland for possession of child pornography and David Shelby for exposing and fondling himself numerous times through a web cam.
Six of the men had criminal histories including charges of drug possession, dealing in stolen property, and fraud.
