Broward Storm Topples Tree Onto Apartment Bldg.

Red Cross Assists Tenants In Finding Temporary Housing

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― A dozen adults and children were forced from their apartment building in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday after a tree toppled over, damaging a roof and cutting off the electricity.

Hillary Villa, one of the residents evacuated, told CBS4 Reporter Peter D'Oench, "All of a sudden, you hear the tree fall, and then 'boom'." She added, "It woke everyone out of a deep sleep."

Red Cross officials have been finding temporary shelter at a community center for those who had been suffering heat exhaustion while county building officials determine what if any structural damage may exist.

Florida Power & Light workers hope to have power restored by Friday to the complex located at 313 SW 14th St.
