Girl Charged For Using Knife To Cut Lunch

OCALA (CBS4) ―

A ten-year-old student at a Marion County school in central Florida was arrested last week on felony charges for bringing a knife from home to cut her lunch.

School officials said they have "zero tolerance" for knives brought to school and had the sheriff's office arrest her and take her to a juvenile detention center. She was also suspended from school for at least ten days.

The child's uncle told the Ocala Star-Banner "I certainly understand the school's concern, but at some point, someone should've stopped and said she's a good girl and a good student, instead of throwing her into the system."

Several students told the deputy the girl never tried to hurt or threatened anyone with the knife.
