MIAMI (CBS4) ― The Subway Get Fit Challenge has finished up another week and the weight loss contestants had their third weigh-in. Last week, we profiled contestant Joseph Grooms and next week it'll be TJ but this week, it's Karen Jones.

Karen is a single mom. She's dedicated most of her life to her son David, who has Cerebral Palsy. Now she's focusing on getting herself in shape.

The hardest part for her in the third week of the Subway Get Fit Challenge is trying to get it to conform to her lifestyle because she's always on the road.

Karen has her own business where she helps people with disabilities learn how to deal with everyday life activities. One of Karen's new activities on the challenge is working out. Her trainer Alice says she's doing okay.

"I believe in keeping it fun, keep it as fun as possible," said Alice.

Another regular activity for Karen is stepping up on a special scale from Physicians Weight Loss Center. The Tanita scale prints everything going on in a person's body such as: Body Mass Index, Body Fat Percentage, Fat Mass, and Total Body Water.

Karen's BMI is 39-percent but should be between 18 and 24-percent. Her Fat Mass is 123.5 pounds but the goal is to bring it down to between 38-70 pounds. The scale also shows that Karen has gained 5 pounds in muscle weight.

So what about her weight?

Last week, Karen weighed 268 and ½ pounds. This week, she lost ½ pound for a total weight loss of 3 pounds. Karen said she was a little disappointed.

So how did TJ and Joseph do on the scale this week?

Last week, TJ weighed 392 and ½ pounds. This week, he lost 17 pounds for a total weight loss of 18 and ½ pounds.

Joseph weighed 470 pounds last week. This week, he lost 2 and ½ pounds for a total weight loss of 15 pounds.

So here are the results again:
  • Karen has lost 3 pounds
  • TJ has lost 18 and ½ pounds
  • Joseph has lost 15 pounds

But as they get their new activities down they remember that it's still early in the game. There's something else that's important to remember, TJ and Joseph are not working right now and have dedicated their days to the program but Karen says she's okay with that because she's learning how to work the diet and exercise into her busy working life.

We'll have updates on the Get Fit Challenge every Wednesday and the finalists are also blogging online at CBS4.COM/GETFIT.
