Cutting Corners: Cheap Summer Fun For Kids
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Now that school is out for the summer, many parents are wondering how they'll be able to keep the kids entertained without breaking the bank.
CBS4's Christina Loren did a little checking and found some great deals across South Florida for getting the kids out of the house without having to spend a lot of money.
First up why not check out your local library.
"All of our libraries are offering multiple free activities just for kids this summer," said Freda Mosquera, a Youth Services Outreach Librarian in Broward County.
Miami-Dade and Broward county libraries are offering a number of classes, live performances and arts & crafts programs for kids all summer long.

Speaking of free things to do, every third Friday of the month kids and their parents can get in free at the Miami Children's Museum all day long. If being outside is more your thing, head on over to Miami's Grapeland Water Park, located at located at 1550 NW 37 Avenue, where kids get in free every Wednesday.
While not free, for a just a buck kids and their parents can spend a weekend afternoon in Hollywood checking out creatures in the giant saltwater tank and walking the trails at the Ann Kolb Nature Center.
At the Barnacle State Historic Site in Coconut Grove, kids and their families can learn how the early pioneer families braved the wilds of South Florida. It only costs a dollar per person and kids under six get in free.
The best deal of 2009 may just be the Summer Savings Pass for Miami's Metrozoo, Wanadoo City at the Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise and the Miami Seaquarium. For just $19.95 plus the price of a regular admission to any of the three attractions allows the pass holder unlimited use of all three through the month of August.
Your best bet is to buy you pass at Metrozoo where the regular zoo admission is only $11.95 for kids and $13.95 for adults. So for about $32 each, kids can have unlimited visits to all three attractions all summer long. The Summer Savings Pass are valid until August 30th.
