South Florida Beauties Battle To Survive In Gabon
GABON, AFRICA (CBS4) ―
This season of "Survivor" is returning to Africa, and two South Florida women are among the 16 contestants vying for the million dollar prize is Gabon.
If anybody knows what these two will be going through, it's CBS4's Dr. Sean Kenniff. He competed on the very first season of Survivor, losing one million bucks to Richard Hatch. Now, he's hoping the two new South Florida "Survivors" can outwit, outplay and outlast his own 36-day stay.
First is Corinne Kaplan, a 29-year-old single pharmaceutical representative who describes herself as a "blunt beauty."
She describes, "Perhaps I don't take other people's feelings into account when I say something."
That sort of how her parents described Corinne when Kenniff caught up with her family in Davie. "She will figure out people very quickly, and she will know how to manipulate very, very well," said Dr. Fred Kaplan. "She does have a strong streak in her, but that's one of her attributes, I think."
Her younger brother Chase says anyone matching wits with her will pay the price. "She preyed on me 'cause I was younger and I didn't know as much as she did. And she took advantage of that."
"I'm afraid she'll be a skeleton when she comes home!" Corinne's grandmother is worried about the food, or lack of it.
She'll be lucky to get home without any broken bones, because boxing beauty Michelle Chase will be stalking the jungle with her.
Michelle hasn't been nearly as far as she's going now. "How crazy is that? I've never been further than the Bahamas. I'm in Africa. It's nuts!"
Her mom in Fort Lauderdale says the 24-year-old is not monkeying around. "I know she'll kick anyone's butt," Joanna Kretzschmar insisted, "So that's a good thing."
But underneath Michelle's tough temptress appearance, she has a warm heart. In fact, money from her boxing funds college scholarships for underprivileged girls. "She really has a good heart and she tries to do the right thing," described Joanna.
So, can Michelle score a knockout on Survivor and bring home the prize? Her mother has the same concerns as Corinne's grandmother; "She definitely has the determination, the strength. The big thing is the food."
If neither of them can stomach the competition, they'll simply have to remember: winning isn't everything.
