Police Taser Suspect In Major Dade Intersection

After Leading Police On A High-Speed Chase, A Man Was Finally Taken Down With A Taser

MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4) ― Police tasered a man to the ground in the middle of a congested intersection at 183rd St. and NW 2nd Ave. on Thursday afternoon after he surrendered from what's believed to have been a holdup in Hialeah.

It's believed the suspect, driving a white sedan, was involved in a store robbery in Hialeah near Amelia Earhart Park.

After he was detected by police, the driver then lead a chase that came close to crashing into several vehicles.

Overhead, CBS Chopper4's Tony Jerez caught the vehicle on camera. "They are on the wrong side of the road."

Sgt. Barbara Ricano of the Hialeah Police said, "The subject attempted to ram one of our K-9 officers."

Kenny Santos, a witness, told CBS4 Reporter David Sutta, "He definitely looked scary.  I stopped and dropped everything."

Santos was working at a gas station on the corner as the man darted in every direction but kept being met by officers.

He almost crashed into a school bush, too.  The man then jumped from his vehicle, and  began to run behind cars, eventually making his way to an intersection where he was cornered by police.

Police fired a Taser dart into the man's neck.

Sgt. Ricano added, "The subject is considered a habitual traffic offender and also has numerous warrants."
