Fl. Teachers Have To Pay More To Become Certified
Teacher Exam Fees Have Doubled
Fees Now $100 Instead Of $50
New Fees Go Into Effect Sept. 1
TAMPA (CBS4) ―
It just got more expensive for teachers to become certified in the state of Florida, twice as expensive.
The State Board of Education voted Tuesday to increase the fees for each of the three teacher certification exams required before becoming a Florida teacher. The exam fees will now be $100 instead of $50, and the total will $300.
The new fees will go into effect Sept. 1. That's just eight months after they went up from $25 to $50.
Assistant Deputy Education Commissioner Cornelia Orr told the board the state had previously subsidized the tests as a teacher recruiting strategy.
The increases are designed to make the certification program more self supporting. The fees now are expected to generate $8.9 million a year, still short of the program's $16.5 million cost.
