Homestead Mother Asks For Help As She Buries Son

Emmanuel Lacayo Was Killed For His Necklace

HOMESTEAD (CBS4) ― A Homestead mother is asking for the public's help in finding the person responsible for death of her teenage son.

16-year old Emmanuel M. Lacayo was shot in the head outside of a home at SW 256th Street and 127th Avenue in Homestead around 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Police say he had left a party at a house in the area and was walking back home when he was apparently robbed at gunpoint of his gold chain. The robbers shot him dead before they fled the scene.

"As a mother, anybody please, that has a kid, and knows what I'm going through, I beg you, help me find who killed my baby," said his mother, Linda Lacayo.

Emmanuel was the youngest of seven children, and the chain was a gift that one of his brother gave him as an incentive to do better in school.

Several of his siblings and his mother spoke to the media at a press conference on Tuesday.

"He was a beautiful gorgeous kid, that didn't deserve this. He had his life, his dreams, and he was working hard to be able to make it," said Linda Lacayo.

A $5,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information that can lead police to the teen's killer.

Police say they have very little to go on and are asking for anyone with information about the shooting to call them or Miami Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
