Suspect Denied Bond In "Gold Chain" Murder
Emmanuel Lacayo Was Killed For His Necklace
Accused Killer Attacks A Man Following Court Appearance
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
A man barely out of state custody for previous crimes was ordered held without bond on a charge of murder Sunday, implicated in the shooting death of a 16-year-old Kendall boy who investigators believed was killed for his gold chain. Mitchell Lee Simpson lashed out at another man in bond court after getting the news, in a violent attack caught on camera.
Simpson, just 4 rears older than the boy he is charged with killing, was jailed Saturday morning and charged with murder, robbery, and attempted armed robbery.
His initial court appearance was Sunday morning, where he was ordered held without bond.
16-year old Emmanuel M. Lacayo was shot and killed for his gold necklace in late May.
The robbers shot him dead before they fled the scene.
Until 2 months ago, Mitchell was an inmate in the Florida Corrections System. He was released from prison in March after serving a year for burglary, theft, and sale of stolen property.
Following his court appearance Sunday, Mitchell turned to walk away and without warning, attacked the next man in line at the televised jailhouse bond court hearing. He was shown punching the man in the face and forcing him to the ground before corrections workers pulled him away.
The man Simpson attacked did not appear to be seriously injured. The attack appeared to be unprovoked and it's not known if Simpson will face additional charges because of the outburst.
