Hotels Try Gas Card Giveaways To Pump Occupancy

The High Cost Of Gas Has Travel And Tourism Industries Bracing For An Unpredictable Summer

MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) ― A new kind of promotion is being offered by some hotels on South Beach. If one spends the weekend with them, a discount is given, not on the room, but on the gas.

"Lunch, por favor," said Kimberly Rose, who sat poolside with a few girlfriends celebrating the Fourth of July on South Beach.

"Where else can you go to have sun and fun action," she told CBS4 Reporter Jorge Estevez after having driven from Delray Beach to get to her current idyllic surroundings.

In addition to lunch specials, she's getting a break on gas. The Hotel on South Beach at 8th Street and Collins Avenue is giving away $25 gas cards for Florida families staying two nights.  Gas prices on Miami Beach are already hitting $4.48 for regular.

"Everybody's cutting back," said Rose.

But the hotel believes its promotion is working. "It helps make their vacation a little more affordable, which I think is necessary during these times," said Livingston Alexander who works at The Hotel's front desk.

More affordable vacations mean visitors have more enjoyment and less stress.

"With something like that as an incentive to pull them in it's a great marketing tool," said Rose.

To take advantage of the Florida Hotel gas card giveaway,  one can do so at The Hotel or Park Central Hotel on South Beach until December.
