More Commuters Taking Tri-Rail To Work
High Price Of Gas Forcing Many To Try The Trains
Pubic Transportation Ridership Up Nationwide
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ―
The high price at the pump has many South Floridians ditching their wheels and taking the train.
The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority which operates the tri-county Tri-Rail train system says their numbers are up compared to last year. Nearly 371-thousand passengers rode Tri-Rail trains last month, the highest ridership recorded in a single month since service began in 1989 and a jump of 22 percent over the same month last year.
The trend is not unique to South Florida.
In the first three months of this year, the American Public Transportation Association reports Americans took almost 85 million more trips this year compared to same period last year.
