Kite Surfers On South Beach

Surfs up on South Beach as kite skiers and surfers took advantage of Tropical Storm Fay's wind whipped waves and gusty breezes Monday afternoon.
Visitors to any of the area beaches are asked to stay out of the water because no lifeguards are on duty. If you do go in, you are doing so at your own risk because of the dangerous waves and rip tides.
Miami Beach government offices and recreational programs remain closed Tuesday, and drawbridges remain in the locked down position, closing marine traffic. Causeways and bridges remain open to vehicular traffic.
City parking garages remain open.
Residential trash collection will continue as soon as winds lessen below 39 miles per hour.
Tropical Storm Fay also extended by the summer vacation for school kids in Miami Dade and Broward by at least two days. The new school year was supposed to start on Monday, but the public school systems in both counties cancelled the first two days of classes over safety concerns.
State school officials say more than 20 school districts have called off classes for Tuesday.
