Surf's up on South Beach as squall lines from Tropical Storm Fay whip up the surf along South Florida's coastline. Despite the wind and rain that still lingers, South Beach businesses are trying to get back to normal.
Outdoor cafes and restaurants are trying to keep the chairs dry for customers and tourists who headed indoors Monday night as Fay began to arrive. By mid-day, everybody was ready to do a bit of walking around, all the while prepared for another possible drenching.
CBS4's Michele Gillen spoke to several tourists on the beach who said they were quite frightened by Fay but everyone came out of the storm unscathed. And everybody's delighted to realize that their storm adventure is over.
Some businesses on the beach have been struggling with power outages. "The power's been going on and off about four or five times today already, since about six in the morning. So it's a little hectic, but we'll get through," said Paul Filippison at Einstein Bagels. There were plenty of trees downed by the high wind along Brickell Key.
There are no lifeguards stationed along Miami Beach. City officials advise everyone to stay out of the water, or swim at your own risk.
