Tuesday Temps Break Records In S. Fla. (Again!)
Ft. Lauderdale Has Broken Record High Temperatures
CBS4 Weather Forecaster Lissette Gonzalez
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Tuesday ended up being another really, really hot one.
CBS4 weather forecaster Lissette Gonzalez expected the highs in the afternoon to reach 95 degrees in Miami and one notch higher, 96 degrees, in Ft. Lauderdale.
The second city went above and beyond by one degree.
Hitting the mark by Tuesday afternoon, temperatures tied Miami's record high of 95 degrees (set back in 2004). Ft. Lauderdale's record for the day set back in 1924 was broken as thermometers recorded 97 degrees at 3:51 p.m.
On Monday, Miami's recorded high of 95 degrees at Miami International Airport tied the old record high of 95 set back in 1992.
The combination of extremely hot temperatures and high humidity will lead to heat index values soaring above the century mark, which means it will "feel like" the triple digits across South Florida. High pressure is the dominant feature in our weather pattern providing us with a southwesterly steering flow; this is a hot wind flow pattern for us.
On Tuesday afternoon, there is also a slight chance of a stray storm developing if the sea breeze pushes in, but the main weather story will be the sweltering heat.
Tips To Beat The Heat:
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Stay in the shade as much as possible
- Stay inside in the air conditioning
- Dress in light-colored loose fitting clothes
- Limit outdoor activity to the early morning and evening hours
