A Cutler Bay teen accused of mutilating and killing 19 cats in two south Miami-Dade communities reportedly was willing to cut a deal with police shortly before his arrest.
During an interview with detectives Tyler Weinman, 18, allegedly discussed admitting to some of the murders if the rest 'went away', according to documents obtained by
CBS4 news partners
The Miami Herald.
"OK, so let me see if I understand. As long as I tell you about the cats that I did, you can get rid of the others?'' Weinman asked detectives.
The documents indicate that the interview was cut short when Weinman said he would need to speak with a lawyer.
David Macey, Weinman's attorney, said the documented interview proves nothing and can't be relied on for accuracy.
"The reported statements are either misleading and or false,'' he told the
Miami Herald. "The real statement will never be heard because the investigation -- with its unlimited resources -- failed to find a tape recorder. They did not want to record the truth, that Tyler Weinman is innocent.''
Weinman has been charged with 19 counts each of felony animal cruelty and improperly disposing of animal remains; he's also charged with four burglary counts.
Police are reportedly looking at two other people who they say may have taken part in the killings or were accomplices, but so far only Weinman has been charged.
