S. Fla. Summer Fun: Inexpensive Getaways
You Don't Need To Head Out Of Town For Summer Fun
Fun & Inexpensive Kid Friendly Things In S. Florida
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
It's that time of year again that many parents dread.
School is almost over and they have no idea what they're going to do with the kids over the summer to keep them entertained. Add to that to skyrocketing price at the pump and food, and some parents are looking at alternatives to pricey vacation getaways.
Thankfully, there are all kinds of 'inexpensive' fun things to do right in our own backyard that will get the kids out of their backyards.
"Climbing is natural, kids climb, they love to climb, might as well put them somewhere where they can do it safely," said Al Kormesser of X-treme Rock Climbing in South Miami Dade.
At
X-treme Rock Climbing kids and adults can enjoy the entire facility seven days a week for $45 per month; there are no contracts or initiation fees.
In addition to all kinds of vertical terrains that offer a variety of challenges, Xtreme Rocking Climbing also offers yoga classes and a full work out area complete with Nautilis machines, cardio and free weights.
Those looking for day in the water to escape the hot South Florida sun, but hate the idea of getting all sandy at the beach, should check out the
Venetian Pool in Coral Gables. It has a beach, waterfalls, caves, grottos and a gorgeous Mediterranean décor. It's on the National Historic Register, has free parking and admission is $10 for adults, $5.50 for kids.
"This is one of the lowest cost, fun places that we have had a great time with in a long time," said Lynda Stein who always looks for a budget while on vacation. "This is wonderful."
The 820-thousand gallon spring water swimming pool is open 7 days a week.
"This is the first place my parents took me when they wanted to take me to a watering place," said Belkys Perez with the Venetian Pool. "They brought me here instead of the beach. It's a family oriented place and we're so happy to have it in Coral Gables."
Also this summer, AMC will host their 'movie camp' at their theater locations at the Aventura Mall and the Mall of the Americas. On Wednesdays, special kids movies cost only $1 and for $3 they can get a special kids combo pack that comes complete with a drink, popcorn and candy.
AMC's 'movie camp' will begin June 25th.
