4 Your Health: Wash Away Fat With Water "Lipo"

Body Jet Has FDA Approval

BOCA RATON (CBS4) ― Liposuction is the number one cosmetic procedure performed for both women and men.  There's a new liposuction technique gaining popularity which is water assisted that simply washes fat cells away.

Michelle Groomes, 45, works out to stay in shape but admits there were fatty areas she just couldn't shape up.

"There's still a certain area where your body deposits fat. I don't care how I worked out and I had body trainers and I just couldn't get it," said Groomes.

Kirsten Etengoff, 26, felt the same way. Like Groomes she did her research before choosing to tone her trouble spots with the Body Jet or water-assisted liposuction.

"It's not as invasive and from my research it seems that statistically proven there is more patient satisfaction," explained Etengoff.

The traditional liposuction uses a hard canola to remove fat. Boca Raton plastic surgeon Dr. Daniel Man said water-assisted liposuction uses streams of water to gently wash away fat.

"The advantage of the Body Jet is that the stream allows to removal of those fat cells but it doesn't do any harm to the blood vessels and the nerves."

Once the fat is loosened it is then sucked out and can be stored and used by patients as filler for other areas of the body.

The benefits of Body Jet include local sedations, minimal bruising and swelling, more accuracy, less pain and a quick recovery. Patients are up and moving the same day as the surgery. Groomes said the procedure felt like a deep body massage with a lot more benefits.

"I don't feel scared to put a bikini on anymore and for 45 I'm pretty happy with it," Groomes said grinning.

Body Jet was approved by the Food and Drug Administration just a few months ago and is comparable to traditional liposuction in cost and results. It costs about $45 hundred and lasts for years provided the patient is eating healthy and exercising.
