MIAMI (CBS4) ―
South Florida woke up shivering Thursday under a blanket of frigid, arctic air. A wind chill warning that was in effect across South Florida expired at 9:00 a.m. but temperatures are still very cold.
The morning started out well into the 30s with it feeling more like the 20s. As the sun continues to rise throughout the morning, temperatures will rise, but only at a snails pace. Thursday afternoon, temperatures will struggle to make it to the upper 50s but the wind will keep it feeling more like the brisk 40s.
Miami Beach reached a record low. The temperature dropped to 37 degrees Thursday morning at the Miami Beach Golf Course. This tied the record low temperature set in 1996 and 2003.
The cold weather record in Miami is 35 degrees set in 1958. It reached 38 degrees Thursday morning. In Fort Lauderdale the record low is 31 degrees set in 1958. It reached 37 this morning. The record in Key West is 45 degrees, set in 1996. This morning, it was 48.
Despite only one record low temperature tied, wind chill temperatures were recorded to be between 20 and 30 degrees.
Another cool down is expected Thursday night but freezing temperatures are not anticipated. Overnight Thursday and into Friday morning, far inland locations may see the upper 30s briefly, whereas most areas (especially closer to the coast) will remain in the low to mid 40s. The breeze hangs around so expect it to feel like the low to mid 30s.

By the beginning of next week, temperatures rebound quite nicely with the mercury rising to near 80 degrees Tuesday and overnight lows comfortably mild in the mid 60s.
