Cristobal Picks Up Speed, Heads Away From U.S.

Tropical Storm Cristobal, the first tropical storm to menace the Eastern seaboard this hurricane season, continues to pick up speed as it heads out into the Atlantic and away from the East Coast.
At 11 a.m., the National Hurricane Center reported the center of Cristobal was located near latitude 40.9 north, longitude 65.9 west, or about 450 miles southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Its maximum sustained winds are 65 mph, and Cristobal is expected to weaken over the next 24 hours as it loses its tropical characteristics.
Cristobal is moving toward the northeast near 25 mph.
