Winter Park Man Killed By Deputy After Assault

WINTER PARK (CBS4) ― A central Florida man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman over a five area period was gunned down by a Seminole County deputy sheriff after he pointed a rifle at him.

Jerry Wesley Camp, 43, reportedly took the woman captive Saturday at home near Winter Park. Camp reportedly knew the woman he is accused of attacking and told her he intended for authorities to shoot him. The sheriff's department has not said how Camp knew the woman.

According to investigators the woman called 911 just before 10 a.m. to report the sexual assault, named her attacker and described his truck.  A deputy spotted Camp's truck and tried to pull him over. Camp reportedly drove for a short time before he pulled into the drive way of a home where he had once lived. When he got out of the truck he pointed a rifle at the deputy who shot and killed him.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
