Hialeah Hospital Response To Fernandez Suit
MIAMI (HIALEAH HOSPITAL) ―
At Hialeah Hospital, our main priority is to provide safe, quality healthcare to all of our patients.
First and foremost, our hearts & prayers go out to the family of Mr. Martinez.
We offer them our sincerest condolences during this very difficult time.
While Hialeah Hospital regrets this unfortunate outcome we intend to vigorously defend ourselves.
When Mr. Martinez arrived at Hialeah Hospital's emergency department on August 10, 2002, he was appropriately treated and his condition stabilized after which he was admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) for further care and treatment.
There he received around-the-clock care by health care professionals who have advanced training.
On August 14, 2002, the physicians attending to Mr. Martinez determined that he required transfer to another hospital for further treatment.
While awaiting transfer, Mr. Martinez, a charity care patient, remained in stable condition and continued to receive around the clock medical care.
Before Mr. Martinez could be transferred, his condition suddenly deteriorated and he ultimately died on August 20, 2002 due to his serious medical condition.
His estate has sued the hospital, as well as the physicians who cared for him at Hialeah Hospital.
The physicians and hospital staff acted appropriately in providing Mr. Martinez with the best care possible.
Local area physicians who have been retained by the hospital and defendant doctors support the actions taken and the treatment rendered.
It is unfortunate that despite the high quality care provided, the outcome was not what anyone desired.
Hialeah Hospital has faithfully served the community for more than 56 years.
Hialeah Hospital treats patients regardless of their ability to pay and provides, on average, $12 million dollars each year in charity and uncompensated care.
We continue to dedicate our efforts to putting our patients first and providing the highest quality service to those who entrust their care to us.
