The Supreme Court has issued a stay of execution for John Marek.

Convicted of first-degree murder, along with codefendant Raymond Wigley, in the death of 47-year-old Adella Marie Simmons on June 16, 1983. Marek and Wigley kidnapped, burned, raped, and murdered Simmons.
Left body at a lifeguard tower where fingerprints from both murderers were found, but only Marek's prints were found inside the observation deck where Simmons' body was found.
Arrested because they were driving a stolen truck. Inside the truck was jewelry belonging to Simmons and a gun.
Found guilty on all charges on June 1, 1984 and sentenced to death four days later by a 10-2 jury vote.
Sentenced to death on July 1, 1984 on First-Degree Murder Charges, 30 years for kidnapping, 9 years for burglary with an assault
