Survey: U.S. Tops List Of Destinations

WASHINGTON (CBS4) ― For many in the United States and around the world, the election of Barack Obama as President was seen as a way of re-establishing the United States place in the world. According to a new survey, Obama's star power has helped propel the United States back to the top of the list of places people most want to visit.

The Country Brand Index said the U.S. took the top spot from Australia, which dropped to third place on the list behind Canada, according to Reuters. New Zealand and France came in at fourth and fifth respectively in the survey.

Another factor that is likely playing a large role in the ascension of the United States to the top of the list is the collapsing dollar. Visitors from Europe can travel and spend small amounts of Euros that will stretch a long way based on the currency exchange.

Reuters said the index is based on a survey of 3,000 business and leisure travelers from around the world. The survey said the United Arab Emirates, China, and Vietnam as areas that may become top tourist destinations in the next five years.
