At Least 6 Dead After Ferry Overturns Near Haiti
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (CBS4) ―
A ferry carrying approximately 60 people has capsized off the southern coast of Haiti. Six people are confirmed dead, while dozens more are still missing following the accident.
According to Haitian civil protection official Jean-Michel Sabbat, the boat overturned Saturday morning during a trip from Anse a Pitre near the border of the Dominican Republic, and the southern Haitian city of Jacmel.
Rescuers have found 16 survivors and are still searching for more. So far, officials have not said what type of boat it was, or why it overturned.
