Crawford Ready For Jenna Bush Wedding
DALLAS, Texas (CBS) ―
Rather than 'Hail to the Chief' heralding his entrance, President George W. Bush will be hearing the strains of a bridal march as he escorts his daughter Jenna down the aisle Saturday. Jenna Bush and fiancé Henry Hagar are tying the knot at the Bush family ranch in Crawford, Texas.
A statue in the middle of Crawford is now decked out with a wedding veil and a bouquet of flowers. Next to Jenna, the statue is the most popular bride in town this weekend, CBS station KTVT-TV in Dallas reports.
Cindy Barker made the trip all the way from Fort Worth.
"We came down and thought we'd get souvenirs for my Democratic mother who needs a mug for Mother's Day," she said laughing.
But tourists may have a hard time finding souvenirs to mark the momentous occasion.
"I am completely out coffee mugs and mouse pads," said Jamie Burgess, owner of the Red Bull Gift Shop. "All I have available now are special orders and I'll have to ship to you."
Two other women who spoke to KTVT traveled from Fort Worth and Granbury in hopes of catching a glimpse of the bride and groom.
Several North Texans, determined to get a 'good spot', headed off to see how close they could get to the Bush ranch. Security is so tight that the Secret Service won't even let media take pictures of the roadblock leading into the ranch.
There have been few celebrity sightings so far.
"We saw one fellow that looked like George Strait, but it wasn't. So that's it. That's the nearest thing to fame we've seen," said Carol Lowrance of Granbury. "No Jenna. No President Bush. No Condi Rice. Nobody."
There will be a rehearsal dinner on the ranch Friday evening, followed be a barbecue lunch Saturday. The outdoor wedding ceremony will follow. About 200 guests are expected, KTVT reported.
Oscar de la Renta designed Jenna's wedding dress. Designer Lela Rose, a New York-based designer with Texas roots , will dress the other Bush daughter and the bridesmaids. Invitees will be entertained at the reception by Jenna's favorite band - Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes.
