No Bail For Nebraska Teacher Accused Of Taking Boy
EL CENTRO, Calif. (AP) ―
A judge in California has denied bail for a 25-year-old teacher from Nebraska accused of fleeing to Mexico with a 13-year-old student.
Kelsey Peterson's court-appointed attorney argued for $100,000 bail, but a federal judge ruled she was a flight risk.
Peterson has agreed to be transferred from California to Nebraska to face charges of taking a minor across state lines with the intent of having sex with him.
She showed no emotion in court, but that wasn't the case when the pair was arrested. An official says Peterson cried as she told the boy that she loved him and "would always love him in her heart."
The boy is still in Mexico because he was in the U.S. illegally. He says he considered Peterson his best friend, but not his girlfriend, and that he had sex with her "maybe twice."
