Police Eye MySpace Link To Missing Vt. Girl

CBS News Interactive: America's Missing Kids

BROOKFIELD, Vt. (AP) ― Vermont State Police investigating the disappearance of a 12-year-old Vermont girl are focusing on the online communication she had before vanishing.

State Police Colonel James Baker says investigators aren't ruling out the possibility that the girl may now be out of state. But dive teams are searching a lake, near where a family member found items belonging to the girl.

The 12-year-old was reported missing Wednesday after being dropped off at a convenience store in village of Randolph. She had said she was going to meet a friend, but police now believe that was a ruse. They say she may have been going to meet someone with whom she'd communicated on MySpace.com.

The girl's mother made a heartfelt plea to her 12-year-old daughter who has been missing more than 36 hours. "I'm not mad. I just want you home," she told CBS affiliate WCAX-TV.

Police are asking anyone who was in Randolph between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday to contact police if they have information.

The disappearance has prompted the Vermont's first-ever Amber Alert.
