Yahoo: Britney Spears Top Web Search In 2008

Followed by WWE and Barack Obama

(CBS4.com) Yahoo! has released the top 10 searches for 2008, and if they are a true reflection on the American public, Britney Spears and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) are bigger draws than even new President-elect Barack Obama.

According to the numbers, Britney Spears was the most searched term on Yahoo! in 2008. It was followed by the WWE at number 2. Barack Obama was the number 3 overall search according to Yahoo's numbers.

Rounding out the top 10 overall searches were: Miley Cyrus, RuneScape, Jessica Alba, Naruto, Lindsay Lohan, Angelina Jolie, and American Idol.

When it came to the top 10 news searches, hurricanes was the number one search. This was likely due to the impact of Hurricane Ike earlier in the year. Caylee and Casey Anthony, Election 2008, Pakistan, and pregnant man rounded out the top 5. Those were followed by: China, Iraq, Shelley Malil, Patrick Swayze, and Afghanistan.

Some other notable search leaders included: Miley Cyrus as most searched celebrity, Barack Obama was the most searched politician, Angelina Jolie was the most searched among "Influential Women," and Heath Ledger was the most searched, "Farewell."
