NCAA Ruling On FSU Appeal Pushed Back One Week
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (CBS4) ―
Florida State coach Bobby Bowden and his legion of fans will have to wait another week to find out the NCAA decision on FSU's appeal of sanctions handed down over a widespread cheating scandal. If FSU loses its appeals, Bowden will lose as many as 14 victories from his all-time coaching wins and likely put him too far behind Penn State coach Joe Paterno in the quest to have the most victories in major college football history.
The NCAA originally slapped Florida State with scholarship losses across multiple sports and forced the football team to give up all victories across two seasons. FSU appealed the sanctions in an effort to save Bowden's wins.
Bowden, who turns 80 in November, is currently one win behind the 82-year-old Paterno, who has 383 all-time victories. Bowden will be replaced by offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher by 2011, or the school will owe Fisher a major payout.
