USC Players Dealing With "Rash" Of Ailments

LOS ANGELES (CBS4.com) ― Preseason injuries always play a factor for football teams. The University of Southern California Trojans have had a few, including one to starting QB Mark Sanchez. But it's another ailment that a rash of USC players have had that left the coaching staff stunned.

Multiple players for the Trojans have contracted tinea cruris, better known as jock itch, according to the Los Angeles Times. USC coach Pete Carroll said as many as 25 percent of his players have developed some sort of skin irritation.

A few players said the condition was so bad for them at one point that they couldn't even walk.

Coaches believe the culprit for the "sensitive" situation is likely to be a new type of compression shorts the team has been using since preseason practice began.

Other non-football ailments have struck members of the team, with one player developing a case of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and two others getting food poisoning from a salmon dinner they had on campus.
