Fire Stations, Churches Accept Haiti Donations

Firefighters in Miami are accepting non-perishable food and clothing donations for Haitian storm victims at 12 fire stations throughout the city.
It's a joint project between the City of Miami and the agency Food for the Poor. It runs through September 19th, and it's aimed at helping the thousands who were victimized in Haiti.
Little Haiti record store owner Joseph Thimotus has 25 relatives in Haiti, and he's been unable to contact any of them. Swollen rivers have triggered mudslides; storm surges have inundated towns, and hundreds have fled to rooftops to plead for help. More than 315 people have lost their lives. Food is scarce---prices have skyrocketed---and UN troops with relief supplies are overwhelmed.
There is more desperation than ever, Thimotus says, in the western hemisphere's poorest country.
The Reverend Reginald Jean-Mary, of Miami's Notre Dame of Haiti Church, has just returned from Haiti, and he told CBS4 of the devastating effects of the storm.
At a news conference, Archbishop John Favalora urged all Catholics, and people of good will, to join the relief efforts in Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and the southern Gulf Coast.
A special collection at all Catholic churches is being held on Sunday, September 28th, and four churches in Miami-Dade and Broward, including Notre Dame of Haiti, are designated as drop-off sites for canned food.
